Parents,

We wanted to keep you in the loop regarding Anderson University's response to the coronavirus. Below is the message that was shared with your students. If you have any questions, please contact the Department of Student Life at (765) 641-4219.

Dear Ravens,

I am writing to assure you that the Anderson University community is working on your behalf to keep you safe and healthy throughout the duration of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.  A team of key individuals across campus has already been meeting and preparing for any eventuality that may occur from local disease transmission.  I have expertise in pandemic preparedness, nursing, and public health and am working in close partnership with our local health department to respond to the need as it evolves over time.  Additionally, campus administrators are following the expert guidance provided by academic authorities and the State of Indiana.

On campus, you will notice disinfecting wipes in high-contact places and infographics to remind us of best practices related to hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.

As a reminder:
  • Frequently wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, and keep your hands away from your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Cough and sneeze into a tissue or the crook of your arm and immediately throw the tissue away.
  • Routinely disinfect surfaces of commonly used objects.
  • Stay home from work or school if you are sick and communicate the need for students and student-workers to do the same.

There is no need for you to purchase surgical masks to wear in public.  A standard-issue mask will not protect you from viruses so leave the masks to those who are sick.  They are helpful in retaining the respiratory secretions of an ill person who is coughing and sneezing.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.gov) is an excellent source for further information.

Friends, it is a good time to be a member of this community which always finds a way to be compassionate.  We know how to care for one another and we do it well.  Please, if you have questions or concerns about the coronavirus, feel free to reach out to me or another trusted AU employee.  We have your concerns at heart.

Steady, Ravens. Steady.
