Come Home to Homecoming 2017: Oct. 13-14
A message from Scott Tilley, Director of Alumni Engagement
Hello AU Alumni Friends,

I'm trusting that over these summer months, many of you have carved out some time to get away from the day-to-day realities to enjoy a vacation. There's usually good excitement and anticipation in the "going." And yet, no matter how good the time away has been, it's always nice to come home. The familiar sights, sounds, and smells are welcome.

I hope that many of you feel the same when you return "home" to the AU campus. No matter if you were here for one year or five years, I trust and believe that Anderson University holds some significant and familiar memories for you.

Because of this, I want to be certain that you will mark your calendars for October 13-14 for this year's centennial "Coming Home" Homecoming weekend. We hope you will come home to:

  • Experience the traditional luminaries which truly light the path around the campus and through the beauty of our valley.
  • Take in the talent and the music of the Homecoming concert.
  • Experience a breakfast with other alums, while connecting with your various areas of affinity.
  • Enjoy the food and festivities surrounding the street fair on University Boulevard.
  • Cheer our Raven football, soccer, and volleyball teams on to victory!
  • Reflect during a time of story and song from Steven Curtis Chapman and his wife Mary Beth.
  • Attend Cheap Thrills, Encore, and a special University Theater production.
  • But more than anything, come home to a place where you will be welcomed back to find familiar faces and lifelong relationships that have helped shape who you are today!

We will be looking for you the weekend of Oct. 13-14, so please make plans now to attend.

Celebrating the past and looking forward to the future,

Scott Tilley
Director of Alumni Engagement

BEYOND HELIOS
AU Alumni Spotlight: Brandon Casburn ('00)
Brandon Casburn graduated in 2000 with a degree in Exercise Science. Casburn knew as early as his sophomore year of high school that he wanted to be an educator. Upon graduating from AU, Casburn applied for his teaching license and currently teaches junior high students at Riverside Junior High School.

During Casburn’s time at AU, he developed the now flourishing intramural program. In his freshman year, he became passionate about the program, despite its lack of options at the time. Only offering volleyball and basketball, Casburn said that they were lucky to get maybe seven or eight teams to play.

During his sophomore year, in his first year as IM program director, he began programming and promoting with a total of eight sports, two sports per season. Today the program has more than doubled, and there are now a total of 20 IM sports programs offered on AU’s campus. “I’m definitely proud of it,” said Casburn.

Looking back on his AU experience, Casburn values the relationships he’s made and the experiences he had. “The people that I interacted with are now lifelong connections.”

Casburn described these relationships as some of the most impactful relationships he’s ever made. “We really invested in each other. We asked, ‘what can I do better?’ and ‘what can I do differently to grow?’ I can’t tell you how valuable it was for those guys to pray, cry, and fight with each other to grow. There was so much offered and I hope that that spirit lives on.” [Written by Katlyn McCullough, AU Student]
